I’ll cut right to the chase.

I have a Doom book coming out on the 10th of December this year to celebrate 30 years of Doom. It book is about 95% done and I’m currently busy editing and such. It’s a lengthy tome that covers the early years of id Software and the making of Doom, before I then get into more covering the Doom community and more.

TITLE

For one of the chapters, I’ve been asking fans of the game if they would like to contribute. I’ve be asking for people to send me their work over summer, with an end of August cut-off time, to give me the time needed to edit and format, etc. I already have several, which I will be editing soon.

I’ve said around a 1,000 word max. I will have to edit to make everything fit the page and I’ll be sending everyone involved a copy of this particular chapter after summer so that they can see how it will look. I won’t be publishing anyone’s work unless they are 100% happy. I’m saying ‘around 1,000 word max’ to allow the fact that I will be editing people’s work. I may have to remove words and sentences or even add them, to make everything fit. Even with the ‘around 1,000 word max’, I am open to larger pieces if it is great content.

The chapter will be a chance for the fans to say what the game means to them. So the kind of content I’m looking for is memories of playing Doom. Did you play the original day one, or did you get into it later? Did you play the original PC release or one of the many Doom ports? Did you play with family and friends? What does Doom mean to you? Do you make Doom related content? Really, write about anything as long as it is related to classic Doom and your personal memories of the game.

I will be sending everyone a copy of this chapter so that they can read it and see how their words will look, make changes and anything else. Once everyone is happy, I will do an overall edit of the book and be sending everyone who has contributed a PDF of the whole thing in November, ahead of the book’s publication on the 10th of December.

Anyway, if there are Doom fans out there who are interested in contributing (and getting a PDF of the book ahead of publication, please use the contact form on this blog and I’ll get back to you.
