I do like a good tower defence title. Unfortunately, I’ve not played a good one in a while. Maybe some not-very-good ones though. Bish Bash Bots is a new tower defence game from developer Catastrophic_Overload and publisher Firestoke. Let’s see if it is one of the good ones or not.

Bish Bash Bots is a unique mix of casual tower defense strategy and all-out brawling action. Team up in couch co-op / online play or go it alone and fight to save the world by building upgradable turrets, unlocking gadgets and bashing bots with giant hammers.

Let me get right to the point on this one. Bish Bash Bots is fantastic. A blend of tower defence, straight-up brawling and a wee bit of humour. If you have ever played a tower defence title before, then you’ll know exactly what to do here. With Bish Bash Bots, there is an EMP device that you need to protect as it powers up. Build towers to defend against attacking robots. Once the EMP is charged, you can unleash it to stop all of the attacking robots and move on to the next level. Rinse and repeat.

Yup, the basics are in place and in regard, Bish Bash Bots doesn’t do anything revolutionary which is a good thing. You don’t need to mess with a formula that works. That is not to say that this game is basic. There’s still a lot of variation and several surprises along the way. The levels themselves offer up several challenges. Having to jump on and off moving platforms, deal with overheating towers in a volcano or put up with sandstorms in a desert. While the basics may be about building towers and defending the EMP, each level still has a level of uniqueness that will keep you on your toes.

Plus, there’s an up to four-player co-op mode and each character has their own unique skill. The co-op mode can be played locally or online..or a mix of both. There are new gadgets to unlock that can help out and a load of cosmetic hats to discover. Each level will also have its own one-off challenge and replaying maps is a must if you want to go for 100%.

Priced at £15 and available now on everything. Bish Bash Bots is really bloody great fun, especially with a few friends. This was one of those games that I put on for an initial brief look, just so I could get a feel for it before sitting down to play and review it properly. Then, that initial brief look ended up lasting several hours and before I knew it, it was 2am. Extremely playable, great fun and if you are a tower defence game fan, then this is an absolute must-buy.
