I’m at an age where I often forget where I put my keys, and then spend way too much time looking for them… before I realise that they are in the exact same place that I always leave them. In short, I’m pretty terrible at finding things. So then, Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic from developer and publisher Rogueside is a game that should really annoy me.

Join Clicky on a new, enchanted adventure in Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic! Search for hidden objects scattered around hand-drawn worlds, and unlock more as you go. With both a single player campaign and an online mode where you can create your own dreamworld, the adventure never ends!

There really isn’t a great deal to cover with this one. It’s a hidden object game. You get various maps crammed with details and animations, and you have to find a handful of sneakily hidden objects on said maps. That’s it, that’s the entire gameplay. You scroll around, try to keep a very sharp eye out for a specific item, and then click on it if/when you find it. It’s an interactive Where’s Wally? You get four different themes to play through, but aside from the visuals, nothing else changes. You just move around the map and try to find hidden objects.

Once you are done with all of the maps of the four themes, you can get your teeth into a rather great custom map creator. This feature is as deep and creative as it is easy to use. A simple pickup and drop mechanic, and you’ll be creating maps in a few minutes. But to create a really challenging map, you’ll need to spend plenty of time with the creator, as it really does offer up a ton of customization options, and it is very easy to lose yourself in all that it has to offer. Then, you can upload your maps and even try out other people’s. Essentially, there’s an inexcusable supply of maps to hide and find objects on.

Visually, Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic is very clean and crisp. There is a lot going on in the maps and a lot to keep your eyes busy. Tons of details and animations that can distract you from finding the objects that have been hidden. You really do need a keen eye and finding everything does offer up a bit of a challenge, even with the little tips that you’re given.

Admittedly, Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic didn’t exactly grip me with its basic gameplay loop, and I did find it tiresome after only a couple of hours. However, my 6-year-old daughter absolutely loved it. Priced at around £10 and available now on Steam and all the consoles on the 25th of January, Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic is a bit shallow for more experienced gamers, but I think it’ll go down well with younger ones. And with such a simple control scheme, youngsters should have no problem with playing. If you do have small children wanting to get into gaming, this may be worth a look.
