Cows are awesome and I will happily fight anyone who disagrees. Not only do they taste nice, they give us milk (I’m not vegan, in case you hadn’t noticed) and they say ‘moo’. As I said, they are awesome. Cows are also the stars of an up and coming 2D action-RPG-shooter. From developer and publisher The Sixth Hammer comes Moo Lander.
Moo Lander is a 2D adventure platformer, where you take control over your civilization’s last remaining spaceship to scour varied environments in search for the source of infinite amounts of milk. Tame the Mighty Cows, discover hidden secrets, solve puzzles and fight intelligent enemies!
As with all of my previews, this will just be a quick and light look at the game. With a full and more in-depth review (hopefully) coming later. So what is Moo Lander all about then? As previously described, this is an action title, there’s a fair bit of shooting and the game also throws in a bit of the Metroidvania genre with some light RPG elements too. You control a spaceship that has crashed. The aim is to search the map to find the missing parts of your ship. A ship that is powered by milk, a very important resource on your home planet.
Guided by your ship’s AI, you have to restore your ship to its former glory and capture cows for their lovely milk. Only, these are no ordinary cows, they are cows that are powered by advanced cow AI and they won’t go down without a fight. Explore the map with its wonderfully sexy, hand-drawn art. Seriously, this game looks gorgeous. Beautiful and colourful graphics, rich in details and milk! Level up by taking out enemies, learn new skills and upgrade your ship. Do battle with powerful cow bosses and try to track down a device that will grant you and your civilization unlimited milk.
When released Moo Lander will feature a 12-hour long campaign as well as a couch co-op ‘mooitplayer’ that offers four different game modes. Coming to all consoles and PC soon. There is a Steam demo and an Xbox one too. I couldn’t seem to find a PlayStation or Switch demo though. The demo will only last you a few minutes but there is enough there to give you a tantalising taste of what is to come and it’s well worth taking a look at. If you like your Metroidvanias with a touch of nonsense humour and lots of cows, then Moo Lander could be just what you are looking for. Check out the demo and keep an eye on this one. Hopefully, I’ll be doing a full review this spring.
